What is Elder Neglect and Abuse

Identifying abuse is sometimes very evident such as: open pressure wounds, medication errors, falls from medical lifts during transfers, and many other types of elder neglect.  There are also less obvious forms of elder abuse including: infectious diseases (MRSA, VRE, C-Diff), due to a lack of hygiene practices, Urinary Tract Infections, physical and sexual abuse or more difficult to always identify.

The state of Minnesota Office of Health Facility Complaints, OHFC, is responsible for the investigation, their website has summaries of past incidents of neglect at a facility.
